Wolfgang Zuser was born in Graz and grew up in Waldbach, a small Styrian village.

He received his first flute lessons at the age of ten and began his studies at the University of Music in Graz six years later, where he studied with Gottfried Hechtl. He repeatedly won awards in prestigious flute competitions and appeared on the Austrian television as a soloist. In 1990 he commenced his studies with Wolfgang Schulz at the University of Music in Vienna. During this time he received a special prize from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He appeared as a soloist with the Chamber orchestra Lwow and the Viennese Operaball Orchestra in Europe and Japan. He frequently plays and records CDs with the Klangforum Wien as guest flutist. Wolfgang Zuser is founder of the gEnsemble Vienna mobileh and member of the gWiener Mozart Akademieg.

Since 1994, he has been a member of the Vienna State Opera.

This resulted in extensive collaboration with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (tours, CD-recordings and TV appearances in Europe, Asia and the USA) and conductors like Seiji Ozawa, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir George Solti and many more.
