Philippe Boucly is Principal Flute of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, one of the leading Orchestras in Europe. Prior of this appointment he was principal flute of the German Opera Orchestra of Berlin and the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.
He is recognized internationally as a leading artist, author and teacher.Philippe Boucly was professor of flute at the Musikhochschule of Frankfurt am Main and sice 1994 has a professorship at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium in Munich.
Born in Mulhouse (France) in a musical family, Philippe Boucly began music lessons at age six, and from there went to study with Roger Bourdin at the Versailles Conservatory. He pursued further studies with Marcel Moyse, James Galway, Alain Marion and Michel Debost.
Winner of several flute competitions in France, Philippe Boucly at age 19 made his debut as concerto soloist at the sale Pleyerl In Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique de radio France and began his first TV and Radio recordings. During his studies, he was laureate of international competitions Prag 1977, Maria Canals Barcelona. Student in the flute class of Jean Pierre Rampal at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris, Philippe Boucly was awarded first Prize in 1981. Jean Pierre Rampal said about him: "His dazzlingly technique and his pure and soft tone are always serving his musical touch and let his fulfilling personality of soloist growing totally"As Principal Flutist, he performed with the most famous conducters like L. Bernstein, S. Celibidache, G. Solti, C.M. Guilini, B. Haitink, R. Muti, S. Ozawa, P. Boulez, Z. Mehta, L. Maazel, W. Sawallisch, M. Jansons.
1992 Philippe Boucly was invited by the Prince of Wales for the 80th Birthday concert of Sir Georg Solti in Buckingham Palace in London to perform with worldwide aritsts like M. Rostropowithsch, P. Domingo, B. Nilsson. His solistic career and his chamber music performances as member of Linos Ensemble get him all over the world.
Trained in the French school of flute playing and as very active pedagogue he presents Master Class in Europe, Japan, Korea, and South East Asian.Apart from performing, Philippe Boucly published from J. Haydn the six flute quartet Hob. 2 edited by Molinari Regensburg in a first complete edition.
